What
USMS (US Masters Swimming) sanctioned 1.2 or 2.4 mile Open Water Swim. Each distance will have a wetsuit and non-wetsuit category. All swimmers will start in the water and finish on the beach utilizing electronic timing chips. There will be three starting waves as described in the Event PDF file.
This is a 1.2 mile rectangular course in the same location as Ironman Wisconsin which is scheduled for the following month. View the course and event layout in the Event PDF file. The course is well marked with eighteen orange buoys, patrolled by lifeguards and volunteers in a variety of watercraft. In past years the water temperature has varied between 70 and 74 degrees.
When
Saturday, August 21, 2010. Event check-in begins at 7:15 am. The pre-swim briefing starts at 8:15 am. The swim events start at 8:30 am.

How to Enter/Register
Because this is a USMS sanctioned event, USMS membership is required. There are two membership options: Annual USMS membership ($42.00, which expires 12/31/2010) or One Event membership ($18.00).
Registration is online only. The entry fee is $30.00 if received before 5:00 pm CST on Wednesday, August 11 or $50.00 if received before registration closes at 5:00 pm CST on Wednesday, August 18. There will be no registration (including race day) after 5:00 pm CST on August 18.
Registration is limited to 500 swimmers. If the race is canceled due to unsafe weather conditions, the One Event membership will be refunded. A photo ID (driver's license) and USMS membership will be required at check-in.
A MOWS 2010 t-shirt is available for purchase for an additional $12.00. The shirt is gray, 100% cotton, and is printed on the front with the MOWS 2010 image, which can be seen at the top of this web page. Shirt orders are made as part of the registration process.
Event Details
Schedule: The detailed schedule and event map can be found in the Event PDF file.
Safety/Rules: The race course will be patrolled by a variety of water craft and certified lifeguards. USMS Open Water rules will apply and a USMS judge will serve as starter. Detailed safety instructions and USMS rules are included in the Safety PDF file.
Food: Bagels, fruit, water and other refreshments will be available after the swim.
Awards and Results: Awards will be given in each age group for each event. Age groups will be 18-24, 25-29, 30-34 . . . (continuing in 5 year increments).
